A LAN cable, or Local Area Network cable, is a type of cable used to connect computers and other devices to a network. It is typically made of copper and is available in a variety of sizes, known as gauges. The gauge of a LAN cable is measured in American Wire Gauge (AWG). The higher the AWG number, the thinner the cable. Thinner cables are more flexible and easier to work with, but they are also less durable and have a lower maximum data transfer rate. The most common AWG sizes for LAN cables are 24, 26, and 28.
