In a stack, a switch is selected as Switch Active. An Active switch will automatically select a switch as a backup switch in the stack. Switches are Actively created and updated with all switching/routing/wireless information and continuously synchronizing that information with the standby switch. If the acrived switch fails, the backup switch takes over the role of the active switch and continues to keep the stack active. Access points continue to stay connected during active to standby transitions.
